Color Thief

It takes something special to make us give a damn about yet another photo filters app, but happily, Color Thief is. While traditionally, filters apps just hook into the CoreImage stuff built into iOS to give you filter presets or manual control using sliders, the way Color Thief works is that it ‘steals’ the colours from one photo and applies them to another; in theory, you now have an infinite range of filters, and if you like how one photo feels, you can match its mood to other shots.

And it actually works really well, though, unsurprisingly, better for some shots than for others.

Navigating can be a little disorientating, and we’d like the option of saving favourite shots-to-use-as-filters into a separate list, but it’s a lovely, simple idea that really impressed us.
