Quite why this word game dumps you into an industrial factory, we’ve no idea – but it adds a suitable atmosphere when the whirrs and clanks echo what’s going on inside your head. Like many iOS word games, this one’s a souped-up crossword puzzle set in a well. You swap letters much like in Bejeweled (although diagonal swaps are also allowed) to compose vertical or horizontal words, which vanish, enabling more letters to fall into the pit. W.E.L.D.E.R. demands a little more strategy than most, because it limits your swaps per level. To aid you, bonus tiles can boost your score and special abilities are unlocked as you work through the 12-level tasks. The problem is, this task is all there is, and while you can fine-tune tactics to better your score, it’s frustrating to have to wait until powers are unlocked every game.
