“Horrifically fast retro larks with, we suspect, an extremely niche appeal. We like it, though.”

Hypership Out of Control

Hypership Out of ControlThe trouble with Hypership Out Of Control is that it’s only going to appeal to a tiny subset of gamers; the ones who appreciate old-school arcade looks but who also have the reactions necessary to cope with belting upwards, ever-faster, dodging and shooting and collecting in a blur of fat pixels. Luckily this reviewer falls bang into that category; your mileage may vary. It’s dripping with retro style, right down to its bleepy chiptune music, and once it really gets going it’s one of those games that you can only really win at by defocussing a bit and letting your instincts take over. That, or learning the layout of the entire game, which seems a little too much like hard work to us. Chances are that it’s not going to be up your street, but if you’re gazing at the screenshots and drooling at the prospect of lightspeed arcade action then, well, step right up.
