“If you're happy to send all your traffic through Onavo, it could save you a packet in data roaming fees.”
Free
If you've ever treated your iPhone to a holiday you'll know that roaming data is expensive. Very, very expensive. Onavo can't help with the networks' astronomical charges, but it can ease the sting. \
\
It installs a custom profile to route data through its proxy servers, and compresses the data so fewer bytes are downloaded by your phone (or iPad — it's an iPhone app, but it runs mostly in the background, so you won't see it). There are no settings to tinker with — just set it and forget it. You can see at a glance how much data you've saved and which apps it's squeezed the most out of. Images are visibly lower quality once they've been through Onavo's magical shrinking machine, but you can still make them out. \
\
The main caveat is that all your data is sent through Onavo. The privacy policy states it won't do bad things with your info, but the super paranoid may feel the trade off isn't worth it. It's currently free, but will cost in the future. We don't know how much, but Onavo says it'll be less than you'd pay in roaming charges.
